Greetings fellow Saturn fans.
I am the happy owner of a low mileage, one owner 2003 Ion 2 that I purchased earlier this year from the original owner in Texas. The carfax showed regular maintenance had been performed since it was new.
I use it as my daily driver and have found it to be extremely reliable and trouble free. I have the Aisin 5 speed automatic and regularly have MPGs in the low 30ths. The engine does not burn oil between 4K mile drains and I don't have any leaks!!!
I have drained and filled the ATF 2 times and the transmission is as smooth as can be. Valvoline Max Life ATF.
FWIW, I replaced the tires recently with a set of 205/65 R15 tires. I am very pleased with the improved look over the OE 195/60 R15 that were on the vehicle for 14 years!
I do have a few questions to pose to the group...
1. Do you use 5w30 as recommended in the owners manual or do you use the alternate 10w30? I live in Virginia so it rarely gets below 20F if that matters.
2. the engine is super quiet with no noises . I do note that upon initial start up that the is a start up noise that is noticeable due to a high rpm at start up. Is that normal and is there any way to reduce the start up rpms ?
3. What suggestions do you have for maintenance items that are often overlooked but important to have performed?
