Most likely a pressure control solenoid issue. the P code may not show up in generic readers but will on better readers. When I bought an aftermarket scantool, it allowed me to program spare remotes as well as read virtually all Saturn codes, including the xmission error code pointing to a pressure control solenoid. Rather than spend money on repairs, my solution was simply get off the road, shut off the engine and wait 15 minutes or so. Long enough to cool off the xmission and restart with the wrench indicator resetting and hard shifting going away. This is random and usually stays away until the next time the xmission acts up. Stop, rest, restart and drive.
