My wife's 93 SL1 just had a new a/c put in it. As she had the old R12 in it,
they had to replace the whole kit and kaboolde. I drove the car the next day
and it was a dog, a Yugo, a turtle. The compressor was loud and the car had
no power at all. It had plenty of pep before all this, before the a/c went
bad. After spending $1200. I was not a happy camper. So she brought the car
back to Saturn. They told me that they did a necessary computer upgrade for
the compressor and checked the car out and it is ok now. so my wife was
happy too about that, especially after forking out so much money on a reapir
    bill.

While she was in service, she also said that she has been noticing a slight
"whine" when accelerating/decelerating and sometimes the tranny shifts
harder than normal. Our service guy told us tht the tranny may be wearing
and not to worry about it right now, but to keep an eye on it.

Other than the PCM telling the tranny to shift hard, what would cause this?
It is a very quaint whine. I think the car is fine and maybe the PCM needs
to be reset again so that the car relearns how to shift. Any ideas? Thanx.

  2. Does it ever pause before engaging after putting the selector in reverse?

My 97 with a standard trans is getting noisy all over - I'm sorta giving up
and just going with the flow...

No pause, to me it seems to be working as expected. Just a little short
whiney noise when accelerating and once in awhile it shifts hard when
    auto-shifting from 1st to 2nd.

  4. ....I have a standard trans and the only symptom that rings any bells with me
for an auto is the delay prob (which you do not have). Maybe someone else
    will post something helpful... (sorry)
