    I posted some problems I was having with my wife's 1997 5 speed sc2 a couple
of days ago and here is where I am at. I changed the spark plugs, coolant
temperature sensor, cleaned the throttle body and pcv valve (they didn't
have a new one at the auto parts store), changed both coils, and checked the
alternator and it is putting out around 14 volts.
now it is idling at 1250 rpm when the car is moving in neutral and when I
stop it will drop down to 850 without touching the gas pedal. is this
normal? if not what could be the problem?

    thanks carmine

My car has always idled at around 1200 when moving(in neutral or with clutch
in) then drops to around 800 when the vehicle is stopped.

  3. That's normal. It's some sort of thing the computer does. My '93 SC2
does it. Even better, if rollig down a hill from a stop, at about 3 or
4 mph, the engine will kick up in speed.

Pick a good, clear, low low traffic, slight hill by you (enough to get
the car rolling, not really steep). Stop on it, wait for the engine to
settle, then release the brakes and let it roll up to 10mph or so, in
neutral. At a bit faster than a walking pace, the idle speed will
suddenly pop up a few rpms. Slow and it'll go down. If it's acting
something like that, then it's perfectly normal.

After the rering and head job, the computer on mine would 'overdo' it a
bit (rev up to 1500 or so). After a hundred miles, it got good at
    running again.

Does the car run right otherwise?
