new tires for SL2?

  1. Wondering if anyone has tried Kumho Ecsta 712's on an S series? I just
bought a set (will be here Tuesday) and am wondering what you thought if you
tried them. Other recommendations are fine.......though it's probably too
late to cancel the order (big tire chain and I put a deposit down).

  2. ....haven't tried anything Kumho - look sticky on Tirerack (and probably
worth a try). I'm running Bridgestone Pole Positions - sweet! (I'm
guessing I'll get a little over 10k out of them - could be wrong)

  3. lol yeah I saw those at tiretrack (just found that by the way) and they
looked pretty sweet but 10K is ugly, though 30K on the 712's isn't gonna be
much better (that's what I've heard at least) considering they are 450
installed (or so). I got away with them for 340 though. Bought them from
Discount Tire Co. and they are giving me 120 back for the Roadhugger GTA
185/65/15's I have on there now that I bought from them and they only have
maybe 15K on them and they're about a 50K or so tire if I remember
correctly. I was debating between tires or exhaust first and figured better
tires first was probably a good idea before more power. I've been working
on the interior a little too though. Put in the electroluminescent gauges
from SPS about 2 weeks ago and have a carbon fiber kit on the way.
Unfortunately with 118,000 my exterior needs quite a bit of work. In other
words, paint job. That and a new front bumper due to a 5 year old scrape on
the right front from a parking garage incident by my ex-wife :-( but it's
amazing what a front end cover can do for that in the mean time lol.

  4. Guess this is a bit off topic now but oh well, on the exterior all I really
have is just the normal rock chips/sandblasting but overall the paint is in
good shape as you can see from the pics on my site. It's not like it's
    severely oxidized or anything.

What size are you getting? I've got Continental ContiExtemeContacts
on my '96 SL2 205-55x15 on stock alloys and they're great. Excellent
    traction wet or dry.

  6. ....plus I don't like the look of dwarfed rotors inside of 17 and 18 inch
wheels. I was at Saturn Motorsports the other day and there was a
gorgeous.blue SC2 out front that had a big-brake conversion done on both the
front and back with big wheels - really looked great.
