As I had written previously, the cruise control in my '01 lw300 was surging when going at about 50 mph on level ground and then starting an uphill climb. Had it in for a state inspection today and asked the sevice writer about this. They checked and said that they found a code (none that I could find) and that they could reprogram the BCM (for a cost of ). Seems to have done the trick but I somehow feel that I wound up paying for something that should have been a recall. After all it scared the crud out of me when the transmission downshifts 2 gears and tach shoots from 1500 rpm to 5K just to get back to cruise setpoint. Inspection failed the front brakes. Rotors resurfaced and new pads 2. If I hadn't been so darned busy, I would have done it myself. Stopping is far better now than when I first got the car. The brakes were always a bit spongy. Bleeding ABS brakes without the proper tool to cycle the ABS pump and valves is such a pain. Probably best that I had the shop do the job. Happy New Year to All, Oppie (Bob Oppenheimer)
