I have a 1995 DOHC SW2. Once in awhile, when stopped and in neutral, my RPMs will rise from 800 to 1700, then, but not always slowly drop back to 800. If I turn then engine off, in the stopped position, then start again, it will go back to 800. Any suggestions ? thank you from DOVETAIL.

Clean your throttle body.

Otherwise I suspect throttle position sensor TPS.
There is no relearn procedure for throttle body position, so that's that

Also if your engine has an Air Idle Control valve, follow the steps to remove and clean that AND also clean your MAF sensor(with the prescribed cleaner).
ChatGPT is a great resource also for such questions I'm finding out.
Take care

Does ChatGPT have extensive experience with Saturn s cars?

I'm not saying anything bad about it.

Other than s cars don't have MAF sensors, they have MAP sensors.

AI is only as good as the quality of the info put into it and how well people ask the questions.
