HELP: defroster-heater-vent selector

1993 Saturn SL-2 4cyl

Hello all;

The slider on the console that changes where the forced air comes out (foot
vents, dash vents, defroster vents, &tc.) no longer works, so I can't direct
the air where its needed. The slider moves but there's no effect.

Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix?
