Hello All. New to this forum. I guess the original Saturn forum I belonged to for almost 20 years has been shuttered. In any event I recently had my 2007 VUE 4 cyl with 77,000 miles in the mechanics for diagnostic reasons. It just wouldn't start in the morning. We would call the CAA/AAA the night before and they would boost it but the next morning it wouldn't start. My mechanic replaced the original battery and the alternator. All fine now but I noticed it had 3/4 of a tank of fuel as opposed to the slightly less than half a tank that I dropped it off with. He said he had to add fuel to test the fuel pump and I've heard also required to test the emission systems? Does anyone know if this is the case please?

I'm pretty sure I do, which is why I answered your question over at Saturnforum.com. I neglected to mention over there that he probably took it out for a good solid test drive to make sure the fuel pressure stayed above the minimum spec and the vehicle responded crisply to requests for more fuel when accelerating. That driving could have used up some gas as well..

Check to see if your invoice states that all I/M monitors pass as of return of the vehicle. As I mentioned, he is like we being extremely thorough and documenting that all the monitors worked properly and passed before he gave you the vehicle back. So that any other issues with those have absolutely nothing to do with the work he has performed.

If you seek a more detailed explanation, simply talk to the guy and tell him you are asking the details for your own knowledge, not to dispute or disagree with anything he did. Most mechanics are happy to talk details with people that can understand them and actually want to know how their cars work. If you choose to do this, kindly return to Saturnforum.com and post his response.

I do my best to give out correct information. I also do my best to correct any incorrect information that I have provided so that the next person that comes along gets as correct an answer as possible from reading past threads.

I admire your thirst for understanding. Go speak with him.
