I have a 2004 Saturn Vue, 2.2l engine and a manual transmission. Today I started my vehicle and it started fine and after a couple minutes the rpms would dip then come back up, like it was running out of fuel. When I would give it some throttle it seemed to run fine. But when I let off it sputtered and died and I can not get it to restart. I initially thought it might be a bad fuel pump but I tested my fuel pressure and have 60 psi with the key on. I hooked my scan tool up to it, it did not read any engine rpms and I don't have any movement on the tachometer. So I think it might be a bad crankshaft position sensor. The only code I have is for the catalytic converter. Is there any other tests I can run for the crankshaft position sensor or do y'all think it could be something else?

Thanks for your time in advance!

Just because you have sufficient pressure in the fuel system, it does not mean you have sufficient flow of fuel per unit time once the vehicle is running.

Also, you will not read any engine RPM nor see the tach lift off zero if the engine is not running ( ??)

Clogged catalytic converters usually do not suddenly clog, but it is possible. Usually you have horrendous driveability problems characterized by severe loss of power, especially going uphills and such. You have to have the vehicle running to do a proper back pressure test. Or remove it from the system and try to force air through it to assess whether it is in fact clogged. Keep in mind that when a cat disintegrates, the innards often migrate backwards and can also lodge in the resonator and even the muffler
