catalytic converter question

    I was told by a muffler shop that my catalytic converter is broken
    internally and that pieces of the catalyst are in the muffler. They
    want to replace the muffler along with the converter. Is this likely?
    Can I still keep using the original muffler with pieces of catalyst in
    it or should I have it replaced?

    Yeah its possible its in there... If it doesnt restrict flow or rattle a
    bunch you could leave it on. If the muffler is about to rust out you
    might go ahead and have it changed though.
