We have a 93 Saturn SL2 w/ an automatic trans. A lot of times, such
as going up a hill with the transmission in 4th gear, it will not
downshift into 3rd, even if I press harder and harder on the
accelerator. Sometimes the car will slow down to 35 mph and the
engine is lugging, yet still it will not downshift into 3rd.
What usually happens is I press harder still on the gas and it
downshifts into 2nd gear.
I tried changing the transmission fluid and filter, but this did not
help fix the problem.
It does not matter if the transmission is in "Norm" or "Perf", it
still hangs in 4th too long.
I have no check engine light coming on or anything like that.
Is there something I can do to fix this, or is there some solenoid or
something like that that may be broken and is causing this?
The problem is tolerable but I'd rather fix it if possible.
