The speedometer stopped working and the check engine light came on. At the
next stop light the light went out and the speedometer began working
again. I searched but could not find the speedometer cable to tighten the
connections. Does anyone know where to find the cable or is there another
    problem developing?

As i unserdtand it, there is no speedometer cable, per-say, there is a speed
sensor in the wheel hub assembly, this sends a signal to the ECM. Which then
sends the speed to the BCM, then to the cluster over a class 2 link. Take it
to saturn or advanced to hve them read the error code from the ecm.

It sounds like the VSS, vehicle speed sensor, is the problem. You need to check
if there are any codes stored. If a code 24 is stored, then I would replace the
sensor or double check the connection and wiring. It is located in the
transaxle down low. The VSS gives the PCM info on how fast you are moving which
in turn sends the speedo the same info.
