I and the original owner and rarely ever needed to make any major repairs. I've taken care of it and it's taken care of me. It's been a great (fast) car. One day it was running strong and the next day there's a rod knocking. I noticed a puddle of oil where there was not a puddle of oil before, so I'm assuming it developed a leak and ran too low on oil. Even with 230k it still was making it between oil changes, which I did religiously, without losing more than half a quart. Sad

Put some 10w 40 or 20W 50 in it so you don't have to listen to the knock. Keep the oil up, the RPMs reasonable, and don't use it for road trips. How many quarts down was it?

On a more serious note: Saving or parting it out is a pretty personal decision. If you're not shade tree mechanic savvy, part it out. That's a major rebuild on the engine, (very costly), or find a donor engine in a bone yard for a price that with removal and install would run you a max of about $1000.00. Too bad to see another one bites the dust.:(

An L61 for a 2007 with less than 125K on it is about $1200 and up..... Anything above 150K they don't even list. A reman is $2500 to $3000.

You can pay less for a 175k or 200k engine, but with unknown maintenance, all you have to go on is the warranty. Many yards do not track the reason the car is in the yard. Fresh collisions are one thing, but they still don't guarantee the engine is trouble free.

My suggestion involved driving it into the ground. Costs nothing more than oil.

When it explodes, sell it whole as a parts car if you can. If not, off to the yard. There are a few parts in high demand. One is a bushing at the bottom of the clutch pedal. The other are hydraulic lines for the clutch.
There is not enough demand for the rest of the parts to justify having it sit on your property for 5 years until you're fed up that no one is buying anything from it

I would never let a yard dude install an engine in my car
