I need to pass a mandatory annual state safety inspection. The plastic lenses on my headlights are so oxidized it's time to get the headlights replaced. Around 3 years ago I had a detailer buff the headlights yet we all know this is a temporary fix to aged headlights.

How difficult is it to replace the lights? At the local Auto Zone they said I need to buy two different headlights, the left and the right. One is a bit more expansive than the other. I didn't understand the why - does anyone know?

Is this an easy DIY? When a friend replaced his Toyota RAV4 headlights, the seals must have gotten broken because moisture or rain got into the headlight assembly. And he had to dry out the headlights before he could get his annual safety inspection.

While I don't drive often at night, it would be nice to have brighter night lights.

They look pretty easy to replace...

As far as brightness you are limited in your options with the stock bulbs. Meaning without adding in a custom lighting package with the newer technology,

As far as left being different than right, it happens.

I used to use Meguiars plastix to remove the cloudiness from the plastic housings on my 97 SC2.

It seems 2000 to 2002 share the same headlight housings on the LS . Quite a few offerings are available, surprisingly.

If they are mounted like my 2002 L200 there are two easy screws on the back and a PITA third screw on the side. It's easier to access that one on ramps.

    Clearly designed for home maintenance.

Be happy. I hear Ford F-150 LED aftermarket tail lights are $700 each and you have to buy the entire housing if any of the functionality goes bad. And that's just parts cost.
