03 ion starts then dies

Hello I have a 2.2 manual with 289k on it has been running just fine until I noticed a power lose couple of days later and now it won't start unless I floor it and even then it only runs for a few seconds

Your '03 is aging, 22 yrs old so parts wear out; fuel pump and/or ignition system. Test for spark and fuel pressure.

Could possibly be security system has been activated. What is the security light doing when you are trying to start the car.

I will admit that this would not explain a drop in power while driving, so if the security system is involved, we I have another problem at the same time.

Indeed, spark and fuel pressure checks are in order.
