02 SC2 Daytime running lights question....

After buying my 02 SC2, (my first real new car!!) the salesman at the
dealership showed me that you could pull a relay under the hood to
kill the daytime running lights. This proved to have the side effect
of killing one of the high beam lights as well. I have been driving
with the drl relay pulled on and off for over a year and have twice
experienced a minor electrical glitch that I'm having trouble
remedying (did I spell that right?): Only twice in a year, mind you,
the indicator lights on the tach for the oil, abs, water temp, and
such would come on, although barely lit. stopping the car, turning it
off, and counting to ten before restarting seems to reset this glitch.
my girlfriend, technical genius that she is (and nagging about the drl
being off) says that this warning light problem is related to my
    pulling the relay.

Can anyone in this knowlegeble forum give me any insight into this, or
has anyone seen this in other saturns or SC2s? Thanks in advance for
    any help.

PS gts needs to make my bloody headlight covers asap.....
